An old fishing village surrounded by green olive woodlands & dotted with rocket-like cypress trees, Roda offers a unique blend of 21st Century tourism and traditional rural simplicity. Speak to anyone who has stayed in the village and they will talk enthusiastically about the special qualities and friendliness of the people of Roda and it is these,
above all, that cause visitors to return year after year.
Friendship to strangers (‘filoxenia’) is inherent amongst the people of Roda and most local families have roots that go back several hundreds of years. After only one day, first-time holidaymakers will often have noticed the warmth of greeting and genuine affection proffered by
villagers and they quickly tap into the vein of friendship that runs through Roda.
Being a compact village, Roda is an easy place to become familiar with and the road along the beach to the east offers an easy stroll for families, couples and even the less mobile. Venture over the bridge at the western end of the village and you will find yourselves immediately in the most enduring of Corfiot scenes – the olive grove.
If it’s activity that you want, then Roda has its fair share with watersports throughout the summer, horse-riding from May to
October, two boat hire companies and regular boat trips around the island.
From rural scenes to spectacular seascapes, from traditional tavernas to modern coffee bars, Roda has quite an array of facilities and vistas. More
energetic visitors can walk just a few hundred metres inland and find themselves in a spectacular mountain landscape with some of the most breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea and the Balkan mainland. As a centre for exploring the island there is none better – hire a car or bike in Roda and, within minutes, you will travel back in time to the Corfu of yesteryear with traditional villages, beautiful churches and rural values.
